“And the Lord said, ‘Simon, Simon! Indeed Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that you faith should not fail’” (Luke 22:31-32).
Thanks for praying and fasting with us this Wednesday, April 13.
Does it seem that our country is being turned upside down? Fifty-million babies aborted in the US, marriage between a man and woman being redefined with homosexuality, a 14-trillion dollar debt, a government that is leaning toward socialism, radical Islamists defended while Israel is being abandoned, pornography growing more rampant on the web and TV, and a dumbed-down educational system. The list goes on.
I am not an alarmist. But it is obvious that Simon Peter is not the only one Satan asked to sift. He’s asking for your sons and daughters. He’s asking to sift America and the church.
He’s asking… but he doesn’t have to succeed. Why?
Because the Lord Jesus Himself is praying for us continually. He is ready to give us strength when we come to the end of ourselves.
Our dilemma is the same as Simon Peter’s. We can’t live for God and self at the same time. Dying to ourselves is the first step in Christian maturity. When we stop trying to live for Him, He can start living through us. Let’s humbly embrace the cross and beg for God to rescue us from ourselves before it’s too late.
Let’s pray.
Let’s pray for ourselves.
Dear Lord,
We realize we are in a fight-to-the-death for our spiritual and national heritage. We desperately need Your help. Forgive us for being apathetic. Forgive us for ignoring the battle for our souls. Help us, the church, to rise up in passion and a new commitment to walk holy. Thanks for praying for us.
Let’s pray for our city and country.
Dear Lord,
We pray for all those in authority. Please turn their hearts to fear Your name. Open our country’s eyes to see our incredible need for Your guidance. Forgive us for our rebellion, stubbornness, pride and wayward ways. Have mercy upon our city and our country.
Let’s pray for the global advance of the gospel.
Dear Lord,
Why do the nations suffer? Because they do not honor You. Please watch over the country’s whose leadership is in transition. Raise up mighty armies of born again Christians to influence change in these nations. We declare that “Jesus Christ is Lord. Amen.
