“When I cry out to You, then my enemies will turn back; this I know, because God is for me” (Psalm 56:9).
How do you respond as you see America’s Christian values disintegrating before your eyes?
The Pew Forum recently reported: “With a laying on of hands, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America on Sunday welcomed into its fold seven openly gay pastors who had until recently been barred from the church’s ministry.”
As an American Christian, I certainly am grieved by reports like this. I ask myself , ‘would Martin Luther roll over in his grave if he heard this?’ I think, ‘it’s a sad day as we see former Bible-believing people twist the Scriptures to call this behavior acceptable before God’.
But is that it? Is disappointment the end of my response? While we love all people, we can do more. We can confess America’s sins to God, and ask for His mercy on our land. So let’s do what God is waiting for us Christians to do… repent… by humbling ourselves before it’s too late.
Let’s pray first for ourselves, the church.
Dear Lord,
Whenever you pointed out sin, you always started with those in the church. We dare not overlook our own sin, but choose to cling to the cross, and ask You to reveal our own sin first.
We ask you to forgive us, the church, for not being salt and light to our communities.
Forgive us for our apathy, unbelief, lovelessness, and pride.
Forgive us for looking down our noses at other people’s sin, but justifying our own sins.
Forgive us for our silence as we watch our culture becoming more debased.
Forgive us for not living our faith 24/7.
Forgive us for allowing sin into our own lives.
Let’s pray for the USA.
Dear Lord,
Your word as always brought hope to a wayward people, no matter how far they went from You. We ask you to forgive US, because it’s only by Your grace that we stand.
Forgive us for lust, pride, greed, sexually immoral behavior, and an independent spirit.
Forgive us for hatred, racism, bigotry, jealousy and materialism.
Forgive us for spiritual idolatry, spiritual hypocrisy, and spiritual blindness.
Forgive us for ignoring Your truths, and believing the devil’s lies.
Have mercy on America again we pray, in Jesus’ precious and holy name, amen.”
Now let’s keep on praying and fasting for ourselves and our city and country until we see the hand of God’s mercy touch us again.
Thanks for making a difference.
