“If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray”
(II Chronicles 7:14).
Thanks for praying and fasting with us this Wednesday, August 4.
Recently I read an article by Cindy Jacobs where she felt a strong urging to call America to fast and pray. Repeatedly in the Bible, nations that were at an impasse were called by godly people to fast and pray. It showed their desperation for God to move, and their dependence upon God instead of their own solutions. Does America need this today? Should pastors and clergy be calling their people to serious and concerted times of prayer and fasting? I believe so.
Read what she posted on July 20 of her Web site, www.elijahlist.com:
A Serious Warning and a Call for Urgent Prayer
A warning received from the Lord on July 17, 2010 in Dallas, Texas.
A few days ago as I watched the financial news, the Lord clearly spoke these words to me, “The nation is teetering!” I then had a vision of the economy of the United States, on what looked like a “scale of justice.” He then went on to show me that we must fast, pray and cry out to the Lord for mercy and solutions that will balance righteousness and justice.
In praying to the Lord for wisdom about this word, I realized what must be done—it is time for the Church in America to stand up and take her place once again in the nation. I mulled over the fact that we have already lost so many of our liberties and this is what I heard, “If the Church doesn’t fast and pray for a faster acceleration of revival and awakening, the iniquitous sin structures in the nation will tip the scale that is teetering and there will be another great depression.”
Let’s not just talk about it, let’s pray and fast this Wednesday. Thanks for believing in the power of prayer and fasting.
1. Let’s pray for ourselves.
Dear Lord,
Our best intentions often fall short when it comes to prayer and fasting. We believe it works, so please help us to demonstrate our death to our fleshly appetites while affirming our spiritual appetite for Your help and assistance. Help us not to be led by our flesh, but to wholeheartedly embrace the cross, splinters and all. We believe that if we lose our life we will find it.
2. Let’s pray for our city and country.
Dear Lord,
Today we heed the prophetic warning above and many other Biblical calls to humble ourselves. Please forgive our nation for our stone-cold independence from You and our hard-hearted rebellion towards Your ways. Please forgive us. Bring Your mercy to our land. Bring godly solutions to our leaders. Let the voice of righteousness be respected again in our churches, homes and government. Please forgive us.
3. Let’s pray for the global advance of the gospel.
Dear Lord,
Thanks for what you are doing in the atheist country of China, as a reported 100 million Chinese are now following You. Bless them, protect them and anoint them for a great endtimes move of Your Holy Spirit in this country. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.”
